Clary Gardens “Digging into Nature” Summer Program for Kids

The summer kicks off with children planting their own garden in the children’s garden,
setting the stage for a season of growth and exploration. Throughout the program,
participants will delve into a variety of nature-themed topics, including soil science, bird
migration, pollinators, frogs, and local waterways. The schedule also features special
events, such as the return of Midwest Falconry for two captivating shows and a guest
visit from Mary McMullen and her feathered friends.

Schedule of Events

 May 26 – Planting a Garden: Children will get their hands dirty as they begin their own garden and learn about plant life.

 June 2 – Soil and Worms: Explore the world beneath our feet and discover the important roles soil and worms play in nature.

 June 9 – Birds/Migration & Owl Pellets: Learn about songbirds and falcons, investigate owl pellets, and understand bird migration patterns.

 June 16 – Midwest Falconry: Enjoy two exciting falconry shows at noon and 2 PM, featuring impressive birds of prey. **This event is also open to the public!

 June 23 – Special Guest Teacher Mary McMullen: Meet Mary McMullen and her feathered friends for an interactive lesson on domestic birds.

 June 30 – Pollinator Day: Discover the importance of pollinators in our gardens and ecosystems.

 July 7 – Frog Day: Observe frogs up close and learn about their habitats and life cycles.

 July 14 – Waterways/Creeking: Explore local creeks and waterways, learning about aquatic life and stream ecosystems.

This engaging and educational program is designed for children 5 and up to connect with nature,

develop curiosity, and foster environmental stewardship. Whether digging in the dirt, searching for

frogs, or watching majestic birds of prey, “Digging into Nature” promises a summer full of discovery at

Clary Gardens.

Class times: 9:30am- 10:30am ages 5-8

10am-11am ages 8+

Cost is $1/student; RSVP to Jodi at plantingseeds@clarygardens.org (members get early-bird

registration through April 30 th , open registration begins May 1 st - classes fill quickly!)
